Upgrading an RC helicopter, micro buggy, or scale motorcycle from self-tapping plastic screws to precision CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminum and Grade 5 titanium machine threads requires a shift in assembly technique. Because metal threads do not deform around the fastener like nylon plastic does, high-frequency motor and drivetrain vibrations will back out dry machine screws within minutes unless properly secured.

1. The Golden Rules of Threadlocker on Micro CNC Hardware
Anaerobic threadlocker cures in the absence of air when confined between close-fitting metal threads:
- Always Use Medium-Strength Blue (Loctite 242 or 243): Never use permanent Red threadlocker (Loctite 271) on M1.2, M1.4, M1.6, or M2 screws—the hex socket will strip before the bond breaks during future maintenance.
- The Toothpick Application Method: Never squeeze threadlocker directly from the bottle onto a micro screw. Place a drop on a clean card, dip the tip of a toothpick or fine pin into the drop, and touch only the bottom 2 threads of the screw. Excess liquid threadlocker that migrates into radial ball bearings will seize the bearing race!
- Never Use Anaerobic Threadlocker Near Plastic/Lexan: Anaerobic esters chemically craze and embrittle polycarbonate canopies and ABS plastic housings.
